79: REPENTANCE CLOTHES YOU IN THE GARMENT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS UNTO HOLINESS

 Living In Abundance Series

Holiness means without spot or blemish.  It’s like a clean white sheet permanently pressed without wrinkle, smudge marks or sprinklings of any kind.  Now how can I, born of a woman, walk this earth without one evil thought or word or action that would never offend God or my fellow man?  In the light of God’s forgiving grace, through the death of His Son Jesus, you can do this thing called “wearing the garment of righteousness unto holiness”.

Let’s put away the guilt of the past.  We’ve addressed, chased and arrested those demons.  Walk away and let God extinguish them.  Now turn in repentance and look to Jesus.  He asked the woman caught in adultery: “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” “Neither do I condemn you, go and sin no more.” Then Jesus said: I am the light of the world.  He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life (John 8:10-12). How beautiful is this scenario?

The woman was caught in sin.  Yet, when standing before Jesus, He could see how her soul yearned to feel true love.  He could feel her shame, her pain, her loneliness (Where was the man caught with her?), her desperation in not wanting to die as was the custom of the day for adultery (Leviticus 20:10; Deuteronomy 22:22), and her weariness from accusing tongues and wagging heads.  Jesus could also see past her sin, and not condemn her to death.

Jesus saw past all of our sins, and this enabled Him to endure crucifixion.  For God demonstrated His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).  And, those who believe in the blood of Jesus which was shed on that old rugged cross have been washed white as snow, having all our sins nailed with Jesus. Therefore, this sacred scripture still remains our truth: Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow . . . (Isaiah 1:18).  I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions, and like a cloud, your sins.  Return to Me, for I have redeemed you (Isaiah 44:22).

Repentance is “sinning no more”.  It is returning to Jesus and never turning back to sin. Ask for the in-filling of Jesus—the Holy Spirit.  Seek to walk like Jesus, talk like Jesus, think like Jesus. Feed your soul regularly on the only food that gives it strength—the Word of God. And put on the clothing of Jesus! These are most beautiful (Exodus 15:11; Psalm 50:2). Jesus is your righteousness, and He is holy; therefore, you are made holy in Christ (Isaiah 1:18). To give them beauty for ashes (Isaiah 61:3b).

So let’s think of this garment as the crème de la crème of all adornment—the jewelry!

Righteousness requires you to get in the habit of doing what’s right in the sight of God (not man).  Holiness demands you to get into the habit of living right with God.  These cover you like a garment of security and protection that the devil and all his evil human agents cannot touch, torture or torment.  They can only stand afar and barely look at you because your light—the light of Christ in you—is blinding upon those who live in darkness.  Their accusations and schemes against your character and your life’s destiny are powerless when you wear this garment.

Your accusers will walk away one by one, from the oldest to the youngest, and now there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit (Romans 8:1).

Bring out the diamonds, pearls, sapphires, jades, gold and all the other precious gems.  Deck yourself out with them. You are married to the King of Glory!

See you in next week’s blog. I’ll be the one carrying your fourth garment!
